Chat Room Questions
- How do I access the chat room?
Accessing the chat room requires a registration process separate from the rest of the site.
1) Register. We as that you use the same username and password that you have for the other features of Pages of the Heart as we are working to stream line the registration process into one sign in for everyone. This will help us to achieve that goal!
2) Log In.
3) Choose the room in which you desire to chat.
4) Press the chat button to enter the chat room.
AOL USERS: Please note that you must be use internet explorer or netscape browser in order to access our chat room. Please minimize your AOL browser and bring up your choosen browser to access the chat room.
- When will your next online crop event be held? I simply love these and can hardly wait until the next one!

- What are those funny little blonde ladies doing next to the users name in the chat room?
Those are images that identify the members sex (whether they are male or female). This is selected within your chat room user profile.
- How do I change the color of my font in the chat room?
Down at the bottom, where you type your message, you should see a color grid to the right hand side. Click on your color of choice. This should change your font color.

Although each contest has different criteria, the basic rules and information are available HERE.
- I won a contest, but I don't know how to receive my prize.
Congratulations on winning a contest here at Pages of the Heart! We are happy to send you your prize. Sometimes, the email address in a members profile is not current or the email address is rejected during sending
for whatever reason. Additionally, some members have chosen to not be alerted with Private Messages through the site. This makes it
difficult for us to contact you directly. If you enter a contest at Pages of the Heart, please ensure that your email address is
current and that your Private Message profile is set to receive an email update. This will aid us in contacting you to obtain the
needed information to get your prize out to you. If for some reason, you have not heard from us, but see that you have
won a contest you entered here at Pages of the Heart, please email us at webmaster@pagesoftheheart.net with your name, POTH user name, the contest you won, and your mailing address
so we can get your prize out to you right away.
Downloads
- How do I install fonts?
1. Go to Start/Programs/Windows Explorer
2. Browse to find my C:WindowsFont folder
3. Click on "File" and then "Install New Font"
4. Browse once again to find c:WindowsFont folder.
5. Find the single font your are trying to install or highlight all of your fonts to make sure they are all working and installed.
6. Click OK.
- How do I download fonts?
Once you click on the download link the download will start automatically. When the download window comes up then click on save.
Remember where you are saving the file so that you can find it later!!
Pages of the Heart uses Winzip to compress the fonts for quicker download. If you don't have Winzip, you can download it at Winzip.com It is a FREE download!
Click on the file to open it and Winzip should open the file automatically. "Extract" the file to C:Windows/Fonts.
If all went well, your Windows programs should allow you to see them after they are installed to this directory.
After downloading them, some fonts need to be manually installed. Read the other section of this category to find out how to install fonts.

No, Pages of the Heart emails are advertising free. The only thing your emails will have in them is a link to Pages of the Heart at the very bottom.
- Do you have to be a member to have a Pages of the Heart email address?
Yes, our email addresses are exclusive for members only.
- How much does a Pages of the Heart email address cost?
This service is FREE!

While we would like to think that the world is a great place and that nothing would or could ever go wrong, we simply MUST have rules for use of our email services.

Terms Of Service:
This Services Agreement (the "Agreement") contains the complete terms and conditions which govern your use of Pages of the Heart email services and other Internet-related services provided by Pages of the Heart (the "Services"). As used in this Agreement, "POTH" means Pagesoftheheart.net and pagesoftheheart.com and "Client", "you", or "your" means you. By using POTH email services, you acknowledge that you have read the Agreement, and you agree to its terms and conditions and all policies posted on the POTH site. As referred to in this Agreement, "Site" refers to a World Wide Web site and "POTH Site" refers to the Site located at the URL http://www.pagesoftheheart.net and/or pagesoftheheart.net, or any other successor sites owned or maintained by pagesoftheheart.net or pagesoftheheart.com.
APPROPRIATE USE OF THE SERVICES.
POTH provides the Services exclusively and makes no effort to edit, control, monitor or restrict the content of data other than as necessary to provide such Services.
Client Content. Client agrees that it will not distribute, electronically transmit or display any materials supplied by Client - or through Client by a third party - to any POTH service in connection with Client's use of the Services which:
violate any state, federal or foreign laws or regulations;
infringe on any intellectual property rights (e.g., copyright, trademark, patent or other proprietary rights) of POTH or any third party;
are defamatory, slanderous or trade libelous;
are threatening or harassing;
are discriminatory based on gender, race, age or promotes hate;
violate any POTH policy posted on the POTH Site including, but not limited to, our Acceptable Use Policy (includes Adult Content Policy), UCE (SPAM) Policy, and CGI Abuse Policy.

Bandwidth: Client may occupy only the amount of disk space than what is alloted. POTH will be the sole arbiter in determining when the client has gone over their bandwidth limit.
No "SPAM". Client shall not use the Services for chain letters, junk mail, spamming, or any use of distribution lists to any person who has not given specific permission to be included in such a process. Client also shall not engage in any unsolicited email practices at POTH, or otherwise, that mentions or reference any of POTH's sites. NOTE: All violators will be fined! (Refer to our UCE (SPAM) Policy).
Lost emails: POTH is not responsible for lost or missing emails or undeliverable messages. This is an as is service. We make no promises as to the workings of the software used to run this service.
Termination. POTH reserves the right to refuse service to anyone. POTH, in its sole discretion, may immediately terminate this Agreement if Client engages in any of the foregoing. To report any unacceptable behavior by a third party using the Services, please contact webmaster@pagesoftheheart.net.

Content:
All services provided by POTH may be used for lawful purposes only. Transmission, storage, or presentation of any information, data or material in violation of any United States Federal, State or City law is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to: copyrighted material, material we judge to be threatening or obscene or material protected by trade secret and other statute, and invasion of privacy. The subscriber agrees to indemnify and hold harmless POTH from any claims resulting from the use of the service which damages the subscriber or any other party.
All pornographic content and sex-related merchandising is prohibited on all POTH sections of the site including emails. This includes anything that may infer sexual content or links to adult content elsewhere. POTH will be the sole arbiter in determining violations of this provision.
Also prohibited is anything that promote any illegal activity or present content that may be damaging to POTH's server or any other server on the Internet. Links to such materials are also prohibited.
Examples of unacceptable content or links:

Hacker programs or archives
Warez sites
POTH will be the sole arbiter as to what constitutes a violation of this provision.
Commercial Advertising - Email:
Spamming, or the sending of unsolicited email, from POTH email address is STRICTLY prohibited. POTH will be the sole arbiter as to what constitutes a violation of this provision. Sites that promote, sell, or otherwise provide access to spamware products or products that are solely for the purpose of extraction or sale of email addresses or which are used to send bulk email are not permitted on our POTH server.
Misuse of System Resources:
Any attempt to undermine or cause harm to a server, or customer, of POTH is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to: using programs that consume excessive CPU time; allowing the use of mail services, mail forwarding capabilities, or autoresponders other than for the customer's own account; resale of disk space without an appropriate reseller agreement; use of servers for backup of files unrelated to the web site of the account; or resale or remote access to CGI scripts installed on our servers. No IRC related software is permitted on our servers. This includes servers, bots, bouncers, or any other software that is used for the purpose of creating, or maintaining access to IRC servers or channels. Accounts that are found to have such software uploaded to their web space are subject to immediate termination without notice.
Refusal of Service:
We reserve the right to refuse, cancel, or terminate service at our sole discretion.
Failure to follow any term or condition will be grounds for immediate account deactivation.
IN NO EVENT WILL POTH BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE POTH's SERVICES OR ANY CONTENT THEREON. Unsolicited Email (SPAM) Policy
POTH will not tolerate the abuse and misuse of e-mail.
Definition of UCE (Unsolicited Commercial E-mail), or SPAM:
The bulk UCE, promotional material, or other forms of solicitation sent via e-mail that advertise any IP address belonging to POTH.
The use of web pages set up on ISPs that allow SPAM-ing (also known as "ghost sites") that directly or indirectly reference customers to domains or IP addresses used by POTH.
Advertising, transmitting, or otherwise making available any software, program, product, or service that is designed to facilitate a means to SPAM.
Forging or misrepresenting message headers, whether in whole or in part, to mask the true origin of the message.

Repercussions of SPAM:
Across the Web, it is generally accepted that SPAM is an inconsiderate and improper business practice. SPAM is not only harmful because of its negative impact on consumer attitudes toward POTH, but also because it can overload POTH’s network and resources, especially on our shared server environments. Please help us not to have issues with our server host by following these guidelines.

- What if I forget my password?

- How do I set mail preferences, such as blocking emails, signature preferences, my time zone, and filtering unwanted content?
Go to Horde
Put in your full email address and password, then click "log in".
Use the menu and options in this section to guide you. Please let us know if you need additional assistance.
- Can others read my emails?
No. Your email is private to you. Emails sent and received through Pages of the Heart are just as private as using any other email based service.
Forums Questions
How do I add a link in my signature to my layouts in the gallery?
You first need to go into the gallery and go into the members gallery. Then find your user name and click on it. When you click on it, it will bring up all your layouts. Copy the address in the address bar.
Go to the forums and click on the "Profile" link. Scroll down and you will see where it says "signature". In there you need to place the following code and replace the text "PLACE YOUR LINK HERE" with the actual link to your layouts in the gallery.

How do I add an image to my post?
Two very important things to remember when using this tag are; many users do not appreciate lots of images being shown in posts and secondly the image you display must already be available on the internet.

Gallery Questions
- How do I upload layouts?
1. Go to the Layout Gallery from the main menu of www.pagesoftheheart.net
2. Click on the "Register" text link.
3. Fill out all the information and then click submit.
4. Go check your email for the confirmation email. Inside that email will be a link that will activate your account when you click on it.
5. Return to the gallery and login with your username and password.
6. When you are ready to upload click on the text link that says "UPLOAD PHOTOS"
7. There will be a pulldown menu. If you leave it on "MEMBERS GALLERIES" it will automatically create a folder for your photos.
8. Click the "BROWSE" button to find the file that your computer.
9. Type in a name for the layout.
10. Enter keywords to allow others to find your layouts when looking for ideas. (EXAMPLE: eyelets, fibers, buttons, frames, etc. )
11. Enter a photo description. This will describe who is in your photos or what the inspiration was when you made it.
12. Do you want to be notified when someone leaves a comment? Select yes or no.
13. Hit submit.
YOU DID IT!!!! :-)
When returning to upload layouts you won't have to
register again. Repeat steps 5-13.
MAC Users: If you have troubles accessing your account, please delete your cookies and temporary files, and check to make sure that your internet security settings are set to medium. If you have any troubles registering or logging into the layout gallery section, please let us know.

What are Pages of the Heart Exclusives?
POTH Exclusives are wonderful digital items created by our Digital Design Team Members. The include Heart Snips, Alphabets, Fonts and Sketches.
Where can I download these freebies?
You can download the items by clicking on the link in the details section underneath the thumbnail in the gallery. Clicking on the link will bring up a new window. Click Save
Who makes them?
The Digital Design Team of POTH takes great pride in making these items for your enjoyment.
How should I give credit for these items?
Many times the file will have initials in the filename. If there is no readme file, you can credit the initials in the filename.
How much do they cost?
These are free to the members of POTH.
I am a paper scrapper, how can I use these in my layouts?
Paper scrappers can have the best of both worlds. You can open these items in your favorite paint programs and print off to be cut and pasted in your paper layouts.
I am a digital scrapper, how can I use these in my layouts?
If you own a software program that supports transparent PNGs, you can use the items in your program to create your own layouts.
What is the best type of paper to print these on?
It is up to the individual. Some people prefer photo glossy, some photo mat. Test a few layouts on different papers to help you decide what is best for your printing needs.
Who owns the copyright for these designs?
The artist that designed the exclusive holds all rights to the copyright and designs included therein.
Can I sell these?
Absolutely not. These items are generously shared with our community by digital artists who work hard. If you know of others who are interested in these items, please tell them to join POTH, and they can receive all this fun stuff, too.
Can I give these away to other people since you are offering them for free?
You may not give these away. Please respect the fact that POTH loves to share with a community. So, if you know of someone is interested in these items, point them to POTH so they can receive their freebies, too.
Can I put this on my website and offer a freebie download of these items from there?
Again, you may not distribute these items. These are POTH exclusives made by our hard working digital design team members. Distributing to others is a violation of the generosity of those who gave them to POTH to be shared with the community. You will only be cheating our community. So do not do it.

- Are you currently accepting applications for new Team Members?
From time to time, we will issue a call for applications for our Design
Team. If you are interested in becoming a Design Team member for Pages of
the Heart, please review our most recent newsletter for any information or
links.
- How do I become a Team Member for Pages of the Heart?
There is an application process that must be completed in order to be considered for the Pages of the Heart Team.
The applications are available below:

We also ask that you upload at least ten layouts to our gallery you think best reflect your
scrapping style. After the application review process, the site owner makes a decision on
who the new team members will be. All decisions are final.
- What are the requirements of a Team Member?
There are very few requirements to being chosen or to remain a Design Team
member. Team Members should be able to represent themselves and their craft well,
demonstrating a working knowledge of traditional methods of scrapbooking
as well as more trendy techniques. Team Members should demonstrate the ability to
discern styles, methods, terms, current
hot topics, and be able to discuss them effectively. Finally, demonstrating
the ability to communicate in writing both personally (as on
a message board) as well as professionally (as for an article or
tutorial)is a must.
- What does a Team Member do exactly?
As a Design Team member, you are requested to spend at least five to eight
hours per week working on Pages of the Heart business. This will include
being an obvious presence on the message boards, posting comments to the
gallery, being a part of our scheduled Chats when possible, participating
in weekly challenges, monthly techniques and themes and participating in
Product Spotlights. A Design Team member should plan to upload a minimum
of four to eight layouts per month to the layout gallery and be prepared
to write at least one article and one tutorial each month to be published
in the monthly newsletter. A Design Team member should participate in
brainstorming sessions for contests, photo opportunities and title ideas
and be an respond to requests and information within the team section of the site.
Additionally, a member should upload inspirations, product
reviews and other information in the Pages of the Heart encyclopedia.
Occasionally a call for special projects is sent out and partipation as
you are able is also requested. Last but not least, you are requested to
share the news about Pages of the Heart. Put the site in your signature
line, join other scrapping communities with whom you can share talent and
news about Pages of the Heart and our community activities, tell your
local scrapping friends and crop pals and share our flyer in your
teachings and crops, even in your emails with other scrappers you may sell
to or correspond with on eBay or other auction sites.
- What is a Moderator?
A Pages of the Heart Moderator is an exceptionally vital part of Pages of
the Heart. A moderator is expected to be a visible and daily presence on
the message boards, posting to many topics, generating conversation, being
on the look out for "unfriendly" postings, moderating (mediating)when
necessary. A moderator should be a conversation starter, be able to
motivate conversation within a thread, and generate and participate in
games and challenges. A moderator should stay in keeping with the current
trends in scrapbooking and be able to discuss these trends with the board
members through challenges, conversation starters, Questions of the Week,
techniques of the month, theme of the month and Challenges of the Week.
The moderators are an integral part of all Pages of the Heart events in
the planning and implementing of those events. She should also be able to
demonstrate an ability to scrapbook using many different styles and
techniques. Moderators will also participate in Product Reviews, writing
reviews in conjunction with the Product Spotlights monthly. Above all she
should always maintain and demonstrate the integrity and vision of Pages
of the Heart and strive to see that others do as well.
- What is a Design Team Member?
A Pages of the Heart Design Team member is vital to the success of Pages
of the Heart. A Design Team member is expected to be seen and visible on
the message boards but even more so in the gallery. She should be a
scrapping leader at Pages of the Heart, and show a scrapping vision. She
is expected to post personal material as well as Product Spotlight
layouts, cards and scrapbooking elements to the gallery. She is expected
to post comments, praises and helpful hints to members work. She is
expected to know, discuss and demonstrate current trends in scrapbooking,
offer tips and pointers, write tutorials and articles and upload her
interpretations of these new trends and techniques to the gallery.
Above all she should always maintain and demonstrate the integrity and
vision of Pages of the Heart and strive to see that others do as well.
